Visas
Having deal with Immigration serves as a useful introduction to the Indonesian Byzantine complexity bureaucracy. The long and short of it, though, is that most Western travelers can get a visa on arrival for US$10/25 at most common points of entry (Java, Bali, etc), so read on only if you suspect that you don’t fit this description.
There are three commonly ways to enter Indonesia:
One peculiarity to note is that visa-free and visa-on-arrival visitors must enter Indonesia via specific ports of entry. Entry via other ports of entry will require a visa regardless of whether you are a visa-free or visa-on-arrival national or otherwise.
Customs in Indonesia is usually quite laid-back. You’re allowed to bring in one liter of alcohol, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 gm of tobacco products, and a reasonable quantity of perfume. Amounts of money carried in excess of 10 million Rupiah, or the equivalent in other currencies, have to be declared upon arrival or departure. In addition to the obvious drugs and guns, importing pornography and fruit, plants, meat or fish is (technically) prohibited. Indonesia imposes death penalty on those caught bringing in drugs.

Save the best for last
For example, you plan to stay for three nights in Rome and wanted to be able to enjoy the local cuisine every night. Budget about 20 Euros for each dinner, so the total budget dinner for three days in Rome is 60 euros.
On the first night, visit food vendors on the street to buy a few pieces of pizza (usually large enough) in a takeaway with a total price of 6-7 Euros (for 2-3 pieces) or buy Italian Panini costing 4-6 Euro / seeds. The second night, try to taste a dish of food in various Trattoria (depot / shop) around where you live, a large portion of lasagna, spaghetti, fettuccini or other pasta 8-10 euros appreciated. Now, therefore, your money still remaining in last night’s 43-46 Euros. This you can spend on enjoying the elegant dinner in fancy restaurants and upper-middle class without having to reach into deeper pockets.
Eat like locals
In Germany the price of a bottle of local beer is cheaper than a bottle of mineral water. While a large pot of mosselen prices in Belgium (a kind of black-shelled mussels typical marine waters north) which is usually cooked with a mixture of onions and red wine, the price is much cheaper than in Prague. Similarly breakfast in Paris will be cheaper when you order a croissant plus a few pieces of French cheese and a glass of juice d’orange than two pieces of toasted bread plus butter and egg you normally consume for breakfast at home.
